So ¹  Pilate ²  decided ³  that their demand should be granted.

Pilate answered, “What I have written, I have written.”

He went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus. ¹  Then Pilate ordered that it be given to him.

They ¹  tied him up, led him away, and handed him over to Pilate ²  the governor. ³ 

Then Pilate said to him, “Don’t you hear how many charges they are bringing against you?”

Pilate said to them, “Take ¹  a guard of soldiers. Go and make it as secure as you can.”

But Jesus made no further reply, so that Pilate was amazed.

Then ¹  the whole group of them rose up and brought Jesus ²  before Pilate. ³ 

Now when Pilate heard this, he asked whether the man was a Galilean.

Then ¹  Pilate called together the chief priests, the ²  rulers, and the people,

Pilate addressed them once again because he wanted ¹  to release Jesus.

He went to Pilate and asked for the body ¹  of Jesus.

Then Pilate took Jesus and had him flogged severely. ¹ 

When Pilate heard what they said, ¹  he was more afraid than ever, ² 

Though ¹  they found ²  no basis ³  for a death sentence, ⁴  they asked Pilate to have him executed.

Pilate said to them, “Then what should I do with Jesus who is called the Christ?” ¹  They all said, “Crucify him!” ² 

The ¹  next day (which is after the day of preparation) the chief priests and the Pharisees ²  assembled before Pilate

So Pilate asked him again, ¹  “Have you nothing to say? See how many charges they are bringing against you!”

So Pilate asked them, ¹  “Do you want me to release the king of the Jews for you?”

Pilate asked them, “Why? What has he done wrong?” But they shouted more insistently, “Crucify him!”
