They ¹  stripped him and put a scarlet robe ²  around him,

They put a purple cloak ¹  on him and after braiding ²  a crown of thorns, ³  they put it on him.

A jar full of sour wine ¹  was there, so they put a sponge soaked in sour wine on a branch of hyssop ²  and lifted it ³  to his mouth.

Immediately ¹  one of them ran and got a sponge, filled it with sour wine, ²  put it on a stick, ³  and gave it to him to drink.

Then someone ran, filled a sponge with sour wine, ¹  put it on a stick, ²  and gave it to him to drink, saying, “Leave him alone! Let’s see if Elijah will come to take him down!”

and those members we consider less honorable we clothe with greater honor, and our unpresentable members are clothed with dignity, ¹
