And do not lead us into temptation, ¹  but deliver us from the evil one. ² 

So ¹  when the devil ²  had completed every temptation, he departed from him until a more opportune time. ³ 

“You are the ones who have remained ¹  with me in my trials.

When he came to the place, ¹  he said to them, “Pray that you will not fall into temptation.” ² 

My brothers and sisters, ¹  consider it nothing but joy ²  when you fall into all sorts of trials,

This brings you great joy, ¹  although you may have to suffer ²  for a short time in various trials.

No trial has overtaken you that is not faced by others. ¹  And God is faithful: He ²  will not let you be tried beyond what you are able to bear, ³  but with the trial will also provide a way out so that you may be able to endure it.

So ¹  he said to them, “Why are you sleeping? Get up and pray that you will not fall into temptation!” ² 

“Do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion, in the day of testing in the wilderness.

Dear friends, do not be astonished ¹  that a trial by fire is occurring among you, ²  as though something strange were happening to you.

– if so, ¹  then the Lord knows how to rescue the godly from their trials, ²  and to reserve the unrighteous for punishment ³  at the day of judgment,

and forgive us our sins, for we also forgive everyone who sins ¹  against us. And do not lead us into temptation.” ² 

serving the Lord with all humility ¹  and with tears, and with the trials that happened to me because of the plots ²  of the Jews.

and though my physical condition put you to the test, you did not despise or reject me. ¹  Instead, you welcomed me as though I were an angel of God, ²  as though I were Christ Jesus himself! ³ 

Those who long to be rich, however, stumble into temptation and a trap and many senseless and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction.

Happy is the one ¹  who endures testing, because when he has proven to be genuine, he will receive the crown of life that God ²  promised to those who love him.

Those ¹  on the rock are the ones who receive the word with joy when they hear it, but they have no root. They believe for a while, ²  but ³  in a time of testing ⁴  fall away. ⁵ 

Because you have kept ¹  my admonition ²  to endure steadfastly, ³  I will also keep you from the hour of testing that is about to come on the whole world to test those who live on the earth.
