he does not need to honor his father.’ ¹  You have nullified the word of God on account of your tradition.

Having no regard ¹  for the command of God, you hold fast to human tradition.” ² 

He also said to them, “You neatly reject the commandment of God in order to set up ¹  your tradition.

Thus you nullify ¹  the word of God by your tradition that you have handed down. And you do many things like this.”

I praise you ¹  because you remember me in everything and maintain the traditions just as I passed them on to you.

Therefore, brothers and sisters, ¹  stand firm and hold on to the traditions that we taught you, whether by speech or by letter. ² 

“Why do your disciples disobey the tradition of the elders? For they don’t wash their ¹  hands when they eat.” ² 

He answered them, ¹  “And why do you disobey the commandment of God because of your tradition?

(For the Pharisees and all the Jews do not eat unless they perform a ritual washing, ¹  holding fast to the tradition of the elders.

I ¹  was advancing in Judaism beyond many of my contemporaries in my nation, ²  and was ³  extremely zealous for the traditions of my ancestors. ⁴ 

The Pharisees and the experts in the law asked him, “Why do your disciples not live according to the tradition of the elders, but eat ¹  with unwashed hands?”

Be careful not to allow anyone to captivate you ¹  through an empty, deceitful philosophy ²  that is according to human traditions and the elemental spirits ³  of the world, and not according to Christ.

But we command you, brothers and sisters, ¹  in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, to keep away from any brother who lives an undisciplined ²  life ³  and not according to the tradition they ⁴  received from us.
