And if you are willing to accept it, he is Elijah, who is to come.

Then if ¹  it bears fruit next year, ²  very well, ³  but if ⁴  not, you can cut it down.’”

(Now Jesus ¹  said this to test him, for he knew what he was going to do.) ² 

(Now he said this to indicate clearly what kind of death he was going to die.) ¹ 

these are only ¹  the shadow of the things to come, but the reality ²  is Christ! ³ 

In this way they will save up ¹  a treasure for themselves as a firm foundation ²  for the future and so lay hold of ³  what is truly life.

For he did not put the world to come, ¹  about which we are speaking, ²  under the control of angels.

tasted the good word of God and the miracles of the coming age,

but only a certain fearful expectation of judgment and a fury ¹  of fire that will consume God’s enemies. ² 

By faith also Isaac blessed Jacob and Esau concerning the future.

For here we have no lasting city, but we seek the city that is to come.

Speak and act as those who will be judged by a law that gives freedom. ¹ 

and if he turned to ashes the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah when he condemned them to destruction, ¹  having appointed ²  them to serve as an example ³  to future generations of the ungodly, ⁴ 

Then the Jewish leaders ¹  said to one another, “Where is he ²  going to go that we cannot find him? ³  He is not going to go to the Jewish people dispersed ⁴  among the Greeks and teach the Greeks, is he? ⁵ 

We went on ahead ¹  to the ship and put out to sea ²  for Assos, ³  intending ⁴  to take Paul aboard there, for he had arranged it this way. ⁵  He ⁶  himself was intending ⁷  to go there by land. ⁸ 

“Tell us, when will these things ¹  happen? And what will be the sign that all these things are about to take place?”

A centurion ¹  there ²  had a slave ³  who was highly regarded, ⁴  but who was sick and at the point of death.

They appeared in glorious splendor and spoke about his departure ¹  that he was about to carry out ²  at Jerusalem. ³ 

So ¹  he ran on ahead and climbed up into a sycamore tree ²  to see him, because Jesus ³  was going to pass that way.

(Now he said this about Judas son of Simon Iscariot, ¹  for Judas, ²  one of the twelve, was going to betray him.) ³
