They ¹  love the place of honor at banquets and the best seats in the synagogues ² 

and the best seats in the synagogues ¹  and the places of honor at banquets.

Now when you come together at the same place, you are not really eating the Lord’s Supper.

But Jesus ¹  said to him, “A man once gave a great banquet ²  and invited ³  many guests. ⁴ 

For I tell you, not one of those individuals ¹  who were invited ²  will taste my banquet!’” ³ 

The evening meal ¹  was in progress, and the devil had already put into the heart ²  of Judas Iscariot, Simon’s son, that he should betray ³  Jesus. ⁴ 

he got up from the meal, removed ¹  his outer clothes, ²  took a towel and tied it around himself. ³ 

For when it is time to eat, everyone proceeds with his own supper. One is hungry and another becomes drunk.

But ¹  a suitable day ²  came, when Herod gave a banquet on his birthday for his court officials, military commanders, and leaders of Galilee.

At ¹  the time for the banquet ²  he sent his slave ³  to tell those who had been invited, ‘Come, because everything is now ready.’

So they prepared a dinner for Jesus ¹  there. Martha ²  was serving, and Lazarus was among those present at the table ³  with him.

“Beware ¹  of the experts in the law. ²  They ³  like walking around in long robes, and they love elaborate greetings ⁴  in the marketplaces and the best seats ⁵  in the synagogues ⁶  and the places of honor at banquets.

Peter turned around and saw the disciple whom Jesus loved following them. ¹  (This was the disciple ²  who had leaned back against Jesus’ ³  chest at the meal and asked, ⁴  “Lord, who is the one who is going to betray you?”) ⁵ 

Then ¹  the angel ²  said to me, “Write the following: Blessed are those who are invited to the banquet at the wedding celebration of the Lamb!” He also said to me, “These are the true words of God.”

Then ¹  I saw one angel standing in ²  the sun, and he shouted in a loud voice to all the birds flying high in the sky: ³  “Come, gather around for the great banquet ⁴  of God,

He ¹  said also to the man ²  who had invited him, “When you host a dinner or a banquet, ³  don’t invite your friends or your brothers or your relatives or rich neighbors so you can be invited by them in return and get repaid.
