“The one who is faithful in a very little ¹  is also faithful in much, and the one who is dishonest in a very little is also dishonest in much.

For anyone who acts dishonestly in these ways is abhorrent ¹  to the Lord your God.

The Lord abhors ¹  differing weights, and dishonest scales are wicked. ² 

“‘See, I strike my hands together ¹  at the dishonest profit you have made, and at the bloodshed ²  they have done among you.

Her officials are like wolves in her midst rending their prey – shedding blood and destroying lives – so they can get dishonest profit.

But you are always thinking and looking for ways to increase your wealth by dishonest means. Your eyes and your heart are set on killing some innocent person and committing fraud and oppression. ¹ 

The ¹  master commended the dishonest ²  manager because he acted shrewdly. ³  For the people ⁴  of this world are more shrewd in dealing with their contemporaries ⁵  than the people ⁶  of light.

The Lord abhors ¹  dishonest scales, ²  but an accurate weight ³  is his elight.

The businessmen love to cheat; ¹  they use dishonest scales. ² 

I do not condone the use of rigged scales, or a bag of deceptive weights. ¹ 

You must not do injustice in the regulation of measures, whether of length, weight, or volume. ¹ 

But his sons did not follow ¹  his ways. Instead, they made money dishonestly, accepted bribes, and perverted justice. ² 

Deacons likewise must be dignified, ¹  not two-faced, ²  not given to excessive drinking, ³  not greedy for gain,

who must be silenced because they mislead whole families by teaching for dishonest gain what ought not to be taught.

But you choose ¹  from the people capable men, ²  God-fearing, ³  men of truth, ⁴  those who hate bribes, ⁵  and put them over the people ⁶  as rulers ⁷  of thousands, rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens.

You say, “When will the new moon festival ¹  be over, ²  so we can sell grain? When will the Sabbath end, ³  so we can open up the grain bins? ⁴  We’re eager ⁵  to sell less for a higher price, ⁶  and to cheat the buyer with rigged scales! ⁷ 

Will you speak wickedly ¹  on God’s behalf? ²  Will you speak deceitfully for him?

I do not associate ¹  with deceitful men, or consort ²  with those who are dishonest. ³ 

Give me a desire for your rules, ¹  rather than for wealth gained unjustly. ² 

but the wicked ¹  will be removed ²  from the land, and the treacherous ³  will be torn away ⁴  from it.
