¹ At that time Jeroboam’s son Abijah became sick.

Rehoboam and Jeroboam were continually at war with each other.

In the eighteenth year of the reign of King Jeroboam, Abijah became king over Judah.

Rehoboam ¹  and Jeroboam were continually at war with each other throughout Abijah’s ²  lifetime.

This sin caused Jeroboam’s dynasty ¹  to come to an end and to be destroyed from the face of the earth.

In the twentieth year of Jeroboam’s reign over Israel, Asa became the king of Judah.

Solomon tried to kill Jeroboam, but Jeroboam escaped to Egypt and found refuge with King Shishak of Egypt. ¹  He stayed in Egypt until Solomon died.

In the eighteenth year of the reign of Jeroboam son of Nebat, Abijah ¹  became king over Judah.

So Jeroboam’s wife got up and went back to ¹  Tirzah. As she crossed the threshold of the house, the boy died.

When Jeroboam son of Nebat heard the news, he was still in Egypt, where he had fled from King Solomon. Jeroboam returned from Egypt.

Jeroboam then thought to himself: ¹  “Now the Davidic dynasty could regain the kingdom. ² 

I will make Ahab’s dynasty ¹  like those of Jeroboam son of Nebat and Baasha son of Ahijah.

Jeroboam passed away ¹  and was buried in Samaria with the kings of Israel. ²  His son Zechariah replaced him as king.

The Israelites followed in the sinful ways of Jeroboam son of Nebat and did not repudiate ¹  them.

All of them were listed in the genealogical records in the time of King Jotham of Judah and in the time of King Jeroboam of Israel.

They sent for him ¹  and Jeroboam and all Israel came and spoke to Rehoboam, saying,

Jeroboam son of Nebat, a servant of Solomon son of David, rose up and rebelled against his master.

Jeroboam did not regain power during the reign of Abijah. ¹  The Lord struck him down and he died.

As a matter of fact, ¹  Amos is saying this: ‘Jeroboam will die by the sword and Israel will certainly be carried into exile ²  away from its land.’”

All Israel will mourn him and bury him. He is the only one in Jeroboam’s family ¹  who will receive a decent burial, for he is the only one in whom the Lord God of Israel found anything good.
