So the Israelites stripped off their ornaments by Mount Horeb.
The Lord our God made a covenant with us at Horeb.
They made an image of a calf at Horeb, and worshiped a metal idol.
Now it is ordinarily an eleven-day journey 1 from Horeb 2 to Kadesh Barnea 3 by way of Mount Seir. 4
The Lord our God spoke to us at Horeb and said, “You have stayed 1 in the area of this mountain long enough.
At Horeb you provoked him and he was angry enough with you to destroy you.
Be very careful, 1 then, because you saw no form at the time the Lord spoke to you at Horeb from the middle of the fire.
(28:69) 1 These are the words of the covenant that the Lord commanded Moses to make with the people of Israel in the land of Moab, in addition to the covenant he had made with them at Horeb. 2
There was nothing in the ark except the two stone tablets Moses had placed there in Horeb. 1 It was there that 2 the Lord made an agreement with the Israelites after he brought them out of the land of Egypt.
So he got up and ate and drank. That meal gave him the strength to travel forty days and forty nights until he reached Horeb, the mountain of God.
There was nothing in the ark except the two tablets Moses had placed there in Horeb. 1 (It was there that 2 the Lord made an agreement with the Israelites after he brought them out of the land of Egypt.)
“Remember the law of my servant Moses, to whom at Horeb 1 I gave rules and regulations for all Israel to obey. 2
Now Moses 1 was shepherding the flock of his father-in-law Jethro, the priest of Midian, and he led the flock to the far side of the desert 2 and came to the mountain of God, to Horeb. 3
I will be standing 1 before you there on 2 the rock in Horeb, and you will strike 3 the rock, and water will come out of it so that the people may drink.” 4 And Moses did so in plain view 5 of the elders of Israel.
Then we left Horeb and passed through all that immense, forbidding wilderness that you saw on the way to the Amorite hill country as the Lord our God had commanded us to do, finally arriving at Kadesh Barnea.
You 1 stood before the Lord your God at Horeb and he 2 said to me, “Assemble the people before me so that I can tell them my commands. 3 Then they will learn to revere me all the days they live in the land, and they will instruct their children.”
This accords with what happened at Horeb in the day of the assembly. You asked the Lord your God: “Please do not make us hear the voice of the Lord our 1 God any more or see this great fire any more lest we die.”
The Lord said 1 to Aaron, “Go to the wilderness to meet Moses. So he went and met him at the mountain of God 2 and greeted him with a kiss. 3
Jethro, Moses’ father-in-law, together with Moses’ 1 sons and his wife, came to Moses in the desert where he was camping by 2 the mountain of God. 3
So do not be idolaters, as some of them were. As it is written, “The people sat down to eat and drink and rose up to play.” 1
