Therefore you must distinguish ¹  between the clean animal and the unclean, and between the unclean bird and the clean, and you must not make yourselves detestable by means of an animal or bird or anything that creeps on the ground – creatures ²  I have distinguished for you as unclean. ³ 

The pig is unclean to you because its hoof is divided (the hoof is completely split in two ¹ ), even though it does not chew the cud. ² 

“‘Now this is what is unclean to you among the swarming things that swarm on the land: ¹  the rat, the mouse, the large lizard of any kind,

However, a spring or a cistern which collects water ¹  will be clean, but one who touches their carcass will be unclean.

Do not make yourselves detestable by any of the swarming things. ¹  You must not defile yourselves by them and become unclean by them,

to distinguish between the unclean and the clean, between the living creatures that may be eaten and the living creatures that must not be eaten.’”

The priest must then examine it, ¹  and if ²  the scab has spread on the skin, then the priest is to pronounce the person unclean. ³  It is a disease.

The whole time he has the infection ¹  he will be continually unclean. He must live in isolation, and his place of residence must be outside the camp.

then the priest is to command that the stones that had the infection in them be pulled and thrown ¹  outside the city ²  into an unclean place.

If the man with a discharge spits on a person who is ceremonially clean, ¹  that person must wash his clothes, bathe in water, and be unclean until evening.

Anyone whom the man with the discharge touches without having rinsed his hands in water ¹  must wash his clothes, bathe in water, and be unclean until evening.

and he must wash in water any clothing or leather that has semen on it, and it will be unclean until evening.

When a man has sexual intercourse with a woman and there is a seminal emission, ¹  they must bathe in water and be unclean until evening.

If there is something on the bed or on the furniture she sits on, ¹  when he touches it ²  he will be unclean until evening,

This is the law of the one with a discharge: the one who has a seminal emission ¹  and becomes unclean by it, ² 

the one who is sick in her menstruation, the one with a discharge, whether male or female, ¹  and a man ²  who has sexual intercourse with an unclean woman.’”

Therefore ¹  the land has become unclean and I have brought the punishment for its iniquity upon it, ²  so that the land has vomited out its inhabitants.
