and Uriah the Hittite. Altogether there were thirty-seven.

Uriah the Hittite, Zabad son of Achli,

When ¹  Esau was forty years old, ²  he married ³  Judith the daughter of Beeri the Hittite, as well as Basemath the daughter of Elon the Hittite.

So David sent a message to Joab that said, “Send me Uriah the Hittite.” So Joab sent Uriah to David.

So David sent someone to inquire about the woman. The messenger ¹  said, “Isn’t this Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam, the wife of Uriah the Hittite?”

Esau took his wives from the Canaanites: ¹  Adah the daughter of Elon the Hittite, and Oholibamah the daughter of Anah and granddaughter ²  of Zibeon the Hivite,

It is the cave in the field of Machpelah, near Mamre in the land of Canaan, which Abraham bought for a burial plot from Ephron the Hittite.

His sons carried him to the land of Canaan and buried him in the cave of the field of Machpelah, near Mamre. This is the field Abraham purchased as a burial plot from Ephron the Hittite.

David said to Ahimelech the Hittite and Abishai son of Zeruiah, Joab’s brother, “Who will go down with me to Saul in the camp?” Abishai replied, “I will go down with you.”

He did this ¹  because David had done what he approved ²  and had not disregarded any of his commandments ³  his entire lifetime, except for the incident involving Uriah the Hittite.

His sons Isaac and Ishmael buried him in the cave of Machpelah ¹  near Mamre, in the field of Ephron the son of Zohar, the Hethite.

Then Rebekah said to Isaac, “I am deeply depressed ¹  because of these daughters of Heth. ²  If Jacob were to marry one of these daughters of Heth who live in this land, I would want to die!” ³ 

Then he instructed them, ¹  “I am about to go ²  to my people. Bury me with my fathers in the cave in the field of Ephron the Hittite.

When the men of the city came out and fought with Joab, some of David’s soldiers ¹  fell in battle. Uriah the Hittite also died.

Then the archers shot at your servants from the wall and some of the king’s soldiers ¹  died. Your servant Uriah the Hittite is also dead.”

So now the sword will never depart from your house. For you have despised me by taking the wife of Uriah the Hittite as your own!’

I will send an angel ¹  before you, and I will drive out the Canaanite, the Amorite, the Hittite, the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite. ²
