So also we, when we were minors, ¹  were enslaved under the basic forces ²  of the world.

But since we are of the day, we must stay sober by putting on the breastplate ¹  of faith and love and as a helmet our hope for salvation. ² 

When this voice was conveyed from heaven, we ourselves ¹  heard it, for we were with him on the holy mountain. ² 

And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent the Son to be the Savior ¹  of the world.

Then John’s ¹  disciples came to Jesus ²  and asked, “Why do we and the Pharisees ³  fast often, ⁴  but your disciples don’t fast?”

Then the disciples came ¹  to Jesus privately and said, “Why couldn’t we cast it out?”

Then Peter said ¹  to him, “Look, ²  we have left everything to follow you! ³  What then will there be for us?”

Then, ¹  after he went into the house, his disciples asked him privately, “Why couldn’t we cast it out?”

“We heard him say, ‘I will destroy this temple made with hands and in three days build another not made with hands.’”

You people ¹  worship what you do not know. We worship what we know, because salvation is from the Jews. ² 

You people ¹  are doing the deeds of your father.” Then ²  they said to Jesus, ³  “We were not born as a result of immorality! ⁴  We have only one Father, God himself.”

The Judeans ¹  replied, ²  “Aren’t we correct in saying ³  that you are a Samaritan and are possessed by a demon?” ⁴ 

Some of the Pharisees ¹  who were with him heard this ²  and asked him, ³  “We are not blind too, are we?” ⁴ 

The Jewish leaders ¹  replied, ²  “We have a law, ³  and according to our law he ought to die, because he claimed to be the Son of God!” ⁴ 

You killed ¹  the Originator ²  of life, whom God raised ³  from the dead. To this fact we are witnesses! ⁴ 

And we are witnesses of these events, ¹  and so is the Holy Spirit whom God has given to those who obey ²  him.”

We ¹  are witnesses of all the things he did both in Judea ²  and in Jerusalem. ³  They ⁴  killed him by hanging him on a tree, ⁵ 

“No one can withhold the water for these people to be baptized, who have received the Holy Spirit just as we did, ¹  can he?” ² 

And we proclaim to you the good news about the promise to our ancestors, ¹ 

So now why are you putting God to the test ¹  by placing on the neck of the disciples a yoke ²  that neither our ancestors ³  nor we have been able to bear?
