Now Gideon and his three hundred men had crossed over the Jordan River, and even though they were exhausted, they were still chasing the Midianites. ¹ 

So the Levite agreed to stay with the man; the young man was like a son to Micah. ¹ 

When the man got ready to leave, ¹  his father-in-law convinced him to stay another night. ² 

In the middle of the night he was startled ¹  and turned over. ²  Now ³  he saw a woman ⁴  lying beside him! ⁵ 

This man Elkanah went up with all his family to make the yearly sacrifice to the Lord and to keep his vow,

When all the men of Israel saw this man, they retreated ¹  from his presence and were very afraid.

He found another man and said, “Wound me!” So the man wounded him severely. ¹ 

Do you want to really live? ¹  Would you love to live a long, happy life? ² 

Those who see you stare at you, they look at you carefully, thinking: ¹  “Is this the man who shook the earth, the one who made kingdoms tremble?

(The cherubim were standing on the south side ¹  of the temple when the man went in, and a cloud filled the inner court.)

When the man went out toward the east with a measuring line in his hand, he measured 1,750 feet, ¹  and then he led me through water, which was ankle deep.

you must bring to your city gates ¹  that man or woman who has done this wicked thing – that very man or woman – and you must stone that person to death. ² 

If the second husband rejects ¹  her and then divorces her, ²  gives her the papers, and evicts her from his house, or if the second husband who married her dies,

The man who owned the house went outside and said to them, “No, my brothers! Don’t do this wicked thing! After all, this man is a guest in my house. Don’t do such a disgraceful thing!

The men of Israel said, “Have you seen this man who is coming up? He does so ¹  to defy Israel. But the king will make the man who can strike him down very wealthy! He will give him his daughter in marriage, and he will make his father’s house exempt from tax obligations in Israel.”

One day some men ¹  were burying a man when they spotted ²  a raiding party. So they threw the dead man ³  into Elisha’s tomb. When the body ⁴  touched Elisha’s bones, the dead man ⁵  came to life and stood on his feet.

After the camels had finished drinking, the man took out a gold nose ring weighing a beka ¹  and two gold bracelets weighing ten shekels ²  and gave them to her. ³ 

So Abraham’s servant ¹  went to the house and unloaded ²  the camels. Straw and feed were given ³  to the camels, and water was provided so that he and the men who were with him could wash their feet. ⁴
