The young man said to him, “I have wholeheartedly obeyed ¹  all these laws. ²  What do I still lack?”

I tell you the truth, ¹  this generation will be held responsible for all these things! ² 

All these evils come from within and defile a person.”

They also had a few small fish. After giving thanks for these, he told them to serve these as well.

The man ¹  said to him, “Teacher, I have wholeheartedly obeyed ²  all these laws ³  since my youth.” ⁴ 

So also you, when you see these things happening, know ¹  that he is near, right at the door.

When they heard this, all the people ¹  in the synagogue were filled with rage.

Instead, pursue ¹  his ²  kingdom, ³  and these things will be given to you as well.

So ¹  he called one of the slaves ²  and asked what was happening.

The Pharisees ¹  (who loved money) heard all this and ridiculed ²  him.

The man ¹  replied, “I have wholeheartedly obeyed ²  all these laws ³  since my youth.” ⁴ 

But when the man ¹  heard this he became very sad, ²  for he was extremely wealthy.

After Jesus ¹  had said this, he continued on ahead, ²  going up to Jerusalem. ³ 

For if such things are done ¹  when the wood is green, what will happen when it is dry?” ² 

But these words seemed like pure nonsense ¹  to them, and they did not believe them.

Wasn’t ¹  it necessary ²  for the Christ ³  to suffer these things and enter into his glory?”

These things happened in Bethany ¹  across the Jordan River ²  where John was baptizing.

Nicodemus replied, ¹  “How can these things be?” ² 

After this ¹  there was a Jewish feast, ²  and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. ³ 

Now because Jesus was doing these things ¹  on the Sabbath, the Jewish leaders ²  began persecuting ³  him.
