For those who sleep, sleep at night and those who get drunk are drunk at night.

“A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to relax,

How long, you sluggard, will you lie there? When will you rise from your sleep? ¹ 

Then they will say, ‘Under these conditions I can enjoy sweet sleep when I wake up and look around.’” ¹ 

The sleep of the laborer is pleasant – whether he eats little or much – but the wealth of the rich will not allow him to sleep.

I will not allow my eyes to sleep, or my eyelids to slumber,

A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to relax, ¹ 

For they cannot sleep unless they cause harm; ¹  they are robbed of sleep ²  until they make someone stumble. ³ 

In the troubling thoughts ¹  of the dreams ²  in the night when a deep sleep ³  falls on men,

Look! Israel’s protector ¹  does not sleep or slumber!

In a dream, a night vision, when deep sleep falls on people as they sleep in their beds.

Permit no sleep to your eyes ¹  or slumber to your eyelids.

Laziness brings on ¹  a deep sleep, ²  and the idle person ³  will go hungry. ⁴ 

But then the Lord awoke from his sleep; ¹  he was like a warrior in a drunken rage. ² 

Do not love sleep, ¹  lest you become impoverished; open your eyes so that ²  you might be satisfied with food. ³ 

Look at me! ¹  Answer me, O Lord my God! Revive me, ²  or else I will die! ³ 

I will lie down and sleep peacefully, ¹  for you, Lord, make me safe and secure. ² 

When ¹  you lie down you will not be filled with fear; ²  when ³  you lie down your sleep will be pleasant. ⁴ 

“I will make her officials and wise men drunk, along with her governors, leaders, ¹  and warriors. They will fall asleep forever and never wake up,” ²  says the King whose name is the Lord who rules over all. ³ 

(Now Jesus had been talking about ¹  his death, but they ²  thought he had been talking about real sleep.) ³
