God repaid Abimelech for the evil he did to his father by murdering his seventy half-brothers. ¹ 

He said to David, “You are more innocent ¹  than I, for you have treated me well, even though I have tried to harm you!

Then ¹  you will be blessed, ²  because they cannot repay you, for you will be repaid ³  at the resurrection of the righteous.”

God also repaid the men of Shechem for their evil deeds. The curse spoken by Jotham son of Jerub-Baal fell ¹  on them.

They repay me evil for good, ¹  and hate for love.

Calamity ¹  pursues sinners, but prosperity rewards the righteous. ² 

Although I trained and strengthened them, ¹  they plot evil against me!

The Lord repaid ¹  me for my godly deeds; ²  he rewarded ³  my blameless behavior. ⁴

May those who wait to ambush me ¹  be repaid for their evil! ²  As a demonstration of your faithfulness, ³  destroy them!
