Bear with me ¹  and I ²  will speak, and after I have spoken ³  you may mock. ⁴ 

Fools mock ¹  at reparation, ²  but among the upright there is favor. ³ 

so ¹  I myself will laugh ²  when disaster strikes you, ³  I will mock when what you dread ⁴  comes,

Will your idle talk ¹  reduce people to silence, ²  and will no one rebuke ³  you when you mock? ⁴ 

They will mock him, spit on him, flog ¹  him severely, and kill him. Yet ²  after three days, ³  he will rise again.”

Those both near and far from you will mock you, you with your bad reputation, ¹  full of turmoil.

All who see me taunt ¹  me; they mock me ²  and shake their heads. ³ 

The righteous see their destruction ¹  and rejoice; the innocent mock them scornfully, ²  saying,

“And now I have become their taunt song; I have become a byword ¹  among them.

Watch them from morning to evening; ¹  I am the object of their mocking songs.

Would it turn out well if he would examine ¹  you? Or as one deceives ²  a man would you deceive him?

Your enemies, O Lord, hurl insults; they insult your chosen king as they dog his footsteps. ¹ 

“But now they mock me, those who are younger ¹  than I, whose fathers I disdained too much ²  to put with my sheep dogs. ³ 

Otherwise, ¹  when he has laid ²  a foundation and is not able to finish the tower, ³  all who see it ⁴  will begin to make fun of ⁵  him.

They mock ¹  and say evil things; ²  they proudly threaten violence. ³ 

Now ¹  the men who were holding Jesus ²  under guard began to mock him and beat him.

They mock kings and laugh at rulers. They laugh at every fortified city; they build siege ramps ¹  and capture them.

and will turn him over to the Gentiles to be mocked and flogged severely ¹  and crucified. ²  Yet ³  on the third day, he will be raised.”

Pay attention, Lord, and hear! Open your eyes, Lord, and observe! Listen to this entire message Sennacherib sent and how he taunts the living God! ¹
