Romans 3:19

Context

3:19 Now we know that whatever the law says, it says to those who are under 1  the law, so that every mouth may be silenced and the whole world may be held accountable to God.

Romans 9:17

9:17 For the scripture says to Pharaoh: 2 For this very purpose I have raised you up, that I may demonstrate my power in you, and that my name may be proclaimed in all the earth.” 3 

Romans 15:13

15:13 Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you believe in him, 4  so that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Romans 16:2

Context
16:2 so that you may welcome her in the Lord in a way worthy of the saints and provide her with whatever help she may need from you, for she has been a great help to many, including me.

1 tn Grk “in,” “in connection with.”

2 sn Paul uses a typical rabbinic formula here in which the OT scriptures are figuratively portrayed as speaking to Pharaoh. What he means is that the scripture he cites refers (or can be applied) to Pharaoh.

3 sn A quotation from Exod 9:16.

4 tn Grk “in the believing” or “as [you] believe,” with the object “him” supplied from the context. The referent could be God (15:13a) or Christ (15:12).
