tn Or “willing, ready”; Grk “so my eagerness [is] to preach…” The word πρόθυμος (proqumo", “eager, willing”) is used only elsewhere in the NT in Matt 26:41 = Mark 14:38: “the spirit indeed is willing (πρόθυμος), but the flesh is weak.”

map For location see JP4 A1.

tn Although a number of interpreters understand the “boasting” here to refer to Jewish boasting, others (e.g. C. E. B. Cranfield, “‘The Works of the Law’ in the Epistle to the Romans,” JSNT 43 [1991]: 96) take the phrase to refer to all human boasting before God.

tn Grk “By what sort of law?”

tn Grk “for before the law.”

tn Or “sin is not reckoned.”

tn Grk “For this is the word of promise.”

tn Grk “About this time I will return.” Since this refers to the time when the promised child would be born, it would be approximately a year later.

 sn A quotation from Gen 18:10, 14.

tn Or “who pursued.” The participle could be taken adverbially or adjectivally.

tn Or “a legal righteousness,” that is, a righteousness based on law. This translation would treat the genitive δικαιοσύνης (dikaiosunh") as an attributed genitive (see ExSyn 89-91).

tn Grk “has not attained unto the law.”
