Revelation 5:8

Context
5:8 and when he had taken the scroll, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders threw themselves to the ground 1  before the Lamb. Each 2  of them had a harp and golden bowls full of incense (which are the prayers of the saints). 3

Revelation 12:14

Context
12:14 But 4  the woman was given the two wings of a giant eagle so that she could fly out into the wilderness, 5  to the place God 6  prepared for her, where she is taken care of – away from the presence of the serpent – for a time, times, and half a time. 7

1 tn Grk “fell down.” BDAG 815 s.v. πίπτω 1.b.α.ב. has “fall down, throw oneself to the ground as a sign of devotion or humility, before high-ranking persons or divine beings.”

2 tn Because of the length and complexity of the Greek sentence, a new sentence was started here in the translation.

3 sn This interpretive comment by the author forms a parenthesis in the narrative.

4 tn Here καί (kai) has been translated as “but” to indicate the contrast present here.

5 tn Or “desert.”

6 tn The word “God” is supplied based on the previous statements made concerning “the place prepared for the woman” in 12:6.

7 tc The reading “and half a time” (καὶ ἥμισυ καιροῦ, kai {hmisu kairou) is lacking in the important uncial C. Its inclusion, however, is supported by {Ì47 א A and the rest of the ms tradition}. There is apparently no reason for the scribe of C to intentionally omit the phrase, and the fact that the word “time” (καιρὸν καὶ καιρούς, kairon kai kairou") appears twice before may indicate a scribal oversight.

sn The parallel statement in Rev 12:6 suggests that the phrase a time, times, and half a time equals 1,260 days (three and a half years of 360 days each).
