Psalms 88:8

Context

88:8 You cause those who know me to keep their distance;

you make me an appalling sight to them.

I am trapped and cannot get free. 1

Psalms 93:1

Context
Psalm 93 2

93:1 The Lord reigns!

He is robed in majesty,

the Lord is robed,

he wears strength around his waist. 3

Indeed, the world is established, it cannot be moved.

Psalms 125:1

Context
Psalm 125 4

A song of ascents. 5

125:1 Those who trust in the Lord are like Mount Zion;

it cannot be upended and will endure forever.

1 tn Heb “[I am] confined and I cannot go out.”

2 sn Psalm 93. The psalmist affirms that the Lord is the king of the universe who preserves order and suppresses the destructive forces in the world.

3 sn Strength is compared here to a belt that one wears for support. The Lord’s power undergirds his rule.

4 sn Psalm 125. The psalmist affirms his confidence in the Lord’s protection and justice.

5 sn The precise significance of this title, which appears in Pss 120-134, is unclear. Perhaps worshipers recited these psalms when they ascended the road to Jerusalem to celebrate annual religious festivals. For a discussion of their background see L. C. Allen, Psalms 101-150 (WBC), 219-21.
