Psalms 52:8

Context

52:8 But I 1  am like a flourishing 2  olive tree in the house of God;

I continually 3  trust in God’s loyal love.

Psalms 99:4

Context

99:4 The king is strong;

he loves justice. 4

You ensure that legal decisions will be made fairly; 5

you promote justice and equity in Jacob.

1 tn The disjunctive construction (vav [ו] + subject) highlights the contrast between the evildoer’s destiny (vv. 5-7) and that of the godly psalmist’s security.

2 tn Or “luxuriant, green, leafy.”

3 tn Or, hyperbolically, “forever and ever.”

4 tn Heb “and strength, a king, justice he loves.” The syntax of the Hebrew text is difficult here. The translation assumes that two affirmations are made about the king, the Lord (see v. 1, and Ps 98:6). The noun עֹז (’oz, “strength”) should probably be revocalized as the adjective עַז (’az, “strong”).

5 tn Heb “you establish fairness.”
