Matthew 14:26
Context14:26 When 1 the disciples saw him walking on the water 2 they were terrified and said, “It’s a ghost!” and cried out with fear.
Matthew 15:22
Context15:22 A 3 Canaanite woman from that area came 4 and cried out, 5 “Have mercy on me, Lord, Son of David! My daughter is horribly demon-possessed!”
1 tn Here δέ (de) has not been translated.
2 tn Grk “on the sea”; or “on the lake.” The translation “water” has been used here for stylistic reasons (cf. the same phrase in v. 25).
3 tn Grk “And behold a Canaanite.” The Greek word ἰδού (idou) has not been translated because it has no exact English equivalent here, but adds interest and emphasis (BDAG 468 s.v. 1).
4 tn Grk The participle ἐξελθοῦσα (exelqousa) is here translated as a finite verb. The emphasis is upon her crying out to Jesus.
5 tn Grk “cried out, saying.” The participle λέγουσα (legousa) is redundant here in contemporary English and has not been translated.
