Luke 7:40

Context
7:40 So 1  Jesus answered him, 2  “Simon, I have something to say to you.” He replied, 3  “Say it, Teacher.”

Luke 8:55

Context
8:55 Her 4  spirit returned, 5  and she got up immediately. Then 6  he told them to give her something to eat.

1 tn Here καί (kai) has been translated as “so” to indicate the connection with the preceding statement recording the Pharisee’s thoughts.

2 tn Grk “answering, said to him.” This is redundant in contemporary English and has been simplified to “answered him.”

sn Jesus answered him. Note that as the Pharisee is denying to himself that Jesus is a prophet, Jesus is reading his thoughts.

3 tn Grk “he said.”

4 tn Grk “And her.” Here καί (kai) has not been translated because of differences between Greek and English style.

5 sn In other words, she came back to life; see Acts 20:10.

6 tn Here καί (kai) has been translated as “then” to indicate the implied sequence of events within the narrative. Because of the length and complexity of the Greek sentence, a new sentence was started here in the translation.
