4:33 Now 1  in the synagogue 2  there was a man who had the spirit of an unclean 3  demon, and he cried out with a loud voice,

Luke 9:36

Context
9:36 After 4  the voice had spoken, Jesus was found alone. So 5  they kept silent and told no one 6  at that time 7  anything of what they had seen.

Luke 23:46

Context
23:46 Then Jesus, calling out with a loud voice, said, “Father, into your hands I commit my spirit! 8  And after he said this he breathed his last.

1 tn Here καί (kai) has been translated as “now” to indicate the transition to a specific example of how Jesus spoke with authority (v. 32).

2 sn See the note on synagogues in 4:15.

3 tn Grk “having an unclean, demonic spirit,” that is, an evil spirit. This is the only place Luke uses this lengthy phrase. Normally he simply says an “unclean spirit.”

4 tn Here καί (kai) has not been translated because of differences between Greek and English style.

5 tn Here καί (kai) has been translated as “so” to indicate the concluding summary of the account.

6 sn Although the disciples told no one at the time, later they did recount this. The commentary on this scene is 2 Pet 1:17-18.

7 tn Grk “in those days.”

8 sn A quotation from Ps 31:5. It is a psalm of trust. The righteous, innocent sufferer trusts in God. Luke does not have the cry of pain from Ps 22:1 (cf. Matt 27:46; Mark 15:34), but notes Jesus’ trust instead.
