Luke 22:15

Context
22:15 And he said to them, “I have earnestly desired 1  to eat this Passover with you before I suffer.

Luke 24:26

Context
24:26 Wasn’t 2  it necessary 3  for the Christ 4  to suffer these things and enter into his glory?”

1 tn This phrase parallels a Hebrew infinitive absolute and serves to underline Jesus’ enthusiasm for holding this meal (BDF §198.6).

2 tn This Greek particle (οὐχί, ouci) expects a positive reply.

3 sn The statement Wasn’t it necessary is a reference to the design of God’s plan (see Luke 24:7). Suffering must precede glory (see Luke 17:25).

4 tn Or “Messiah”; both “Christ” (Greek) and “Messiah” (Hebrew and Aramaic) mean “one who has been anointed.”

sn See the note on Christ in 2:11.
