Leviticus 26:33
Context26:33 I will scatter you among the nations and unsheathe the sword 6 after you, so your land will become desolate and your cities will become a waste.
1 tn Heb “which I am sending away (Piel participle of שָׁלַח [shalakh, “to send”]) from your faces.” The rendering here takes the participle as anticipatory of the coming conquest events.
2 tn Heb “And the land will not vomit you out in your defiling it.”
3 tc The MT reads the singular “nation” and is followed by ASV, NASB, NRSV; the LXX, Syriac, and Targum have the plural “nations” (cf. v. 24).
4 tn Heb “And your male slave and your female slave.” Smr has these as plural terms, “slaves,” not singular.
5 tn Heb “ from the nations which surround you, from them you shall buy male slave and female slave.”
6 tn Heb “and I will empty sword” (see HALOT 1228 s.v. ריק 3).
