11:2 and the northern kings who ruled in 1  the hill country, the Arabah south of Kinnereth, 2  the lowlands, and the heights of Dor to the west.

The northern border started north of the Salt Sea at the mouth of the Jordan, 5 

Joshua 18:12

Context
18:12 Their northern border started at the Jordan, went up to the slope of Jericho 6  on the north, ascended westward to the hill country, and extended to the desert of Beth Aven.

Joshua 18:19

Context
18:19 It then crossed to the slope of Beth Hoglah to the north and ended at the northern tip of the Salt Sea 7  at the mouth of the Jordan River. 8  This was the southern border.

2 tn Heb “Chinneroth,” a city and plain located in the territory of Naphtali in Galilee (BDB 490 s.v. כִּנֶּרֶת, כִּנֲרוֹת).

sn Kinnereth was a city in Galilee located near the Sea of Galilee (Deut 3:17). The surrounding region also became known by this name (1 Kgs 15:20; cf. Matt 14:34), and eventually even the lake itself (Josh 12:3; cf. Luke 5:1).

3 tn Heb “end.”

4 tn The word “River” is not in the Hebrew text, but has been supplied for clarity.

5 tn Heb “the border on the northern side was from the tongue of the sea, from the end of the Jordan.”
