tn Heb “remember the word which Moses, the Lord’s servant, commanded you.”

sn This command can be found in Deut 3:18-20. In vv. 13-15 Joshua paraphrases the command, as the third person reference to Moses in v. 14 indicates.

tn Heb “is providing rest for you and is giving to you this land.”

sn “This land” refers to the trans-Jordanian lands allotted to these tribes.

tn Heb “just as the Lord your God did to the Red Sea when he dried [it] up before us while we crossed over.”

tn Heb “when Joshua spoke to the people.”

tn Heb “Then Joshua spoke to the Lord in the day the Lord placed the Amorites before the sons of Israel and he said in the eyes of Israel.” It is uncertain whether the phrase “before the sons of Israel” modifies the verb “placed” (as in the present translation, “delivered the Amorites over to the Israelites”) or the verb “spoke” (“Joshua spoke to the Lord before the sons of Israel in the day the Lord delivered over the Amorites”).

tn Heb “gave it for a possession.”

tn Heb “The Lord commanded Moses to assign to us an inheritance in the midst of our brothers.” Since Zelophehad had no sons, “brothers” must refer to their uncles, as the next sentence makes clear.

tn Heb “he.” The referent is probably Joshua, although Eleazar is mentioned first in the preceding list.

tn Heb “and he assigned to them in accordance with the mouth [i.e., command] of the Lord an inheritance in the midst of the brothers of their father.”

tn Heb “But be very careful to do the commandment and the law which Moses, the Lord’s servant, commanded you, to love.”

tn Heb “walk in all his paths.”

 tn Or “keep.”

 tn Heb “hug him.”

 tn Or “soul.”

tn Heb “you are turning back.”

tn Or “he will be angry with.”

tn Heb “by building.” The prepositional phrase may be subordinated to what precedes, “if in unfaithfulness…by building.”

tn Heb “or if to offer up.”

tn Heb “or if to make.”

 tn Or “peace offerings.”

tn Heb “the Lord, he will seek.” Perhaps this is a self-imprecation in an oath, “may the Lord himself punish us.”

 tn Or “will serve.”

 tn Or “served.”

tn Heb “all the days of Joshua and all the days of the elders who outlived him.”

tn Heb “who knew all the work of the Lord which he had done for Israel.”
