16:18 So they kept on repeating, 6  “What is the meaning of what he says, 7  ‘In a little while’? 8  We do not understand 9  what he is talking about.” 10

1 tn Grk “Philip answered him.”

2 tn Grk “two hundred denarii.” The denarius was a silver coin worth about a day’s wage for a laborer; this would be an amount worth about eight months’ pay.

3 tn Grk “Yet a little I am with you.”

4 tn The word “then” is not in the Greek text, but is implied.

5 tn Grk “Yet a little while, and.”

6 tn Grk “they kept on saying.”

7 tn Grk “What is this that he says.”

8 tn Grk “A little while.” Although the phrase τὸ μικρόν (to mikron) in John 16:18 could be translated simply “a little while,” it was translated “in a little while” to maintain the connection to John 16:16, where it has the latter meaning in context.

9 tn Or “we do not know.”

10 tn Grk “what he is speaking.”
