Job 21:6

Context

21:6 For, when I think 1  about this, I am terrified 2

and my body feels a shudder. 3

Job 35:2

Context

35:2 “Do you think this to be 4  just:

when 5  you say, ‘My right before God.’ 6

1 tn The verb is זָכַר (zakhar, “to remember”). Here it has the sense of “to keep in memory; to meditate; to think upon.”

2 tn The main clause is introduced here by the conjunction, following the adverbial clause of time.

3 tn Some commentators take “shudder” to be the subject of the verb, “a shudder seizes my body.” But the word is feminine (and see the usage, especially in Job 9:6 and 18:20). It is the subject in Isa 21:4; Ps 55:6; and Ezek 7:18.

4 tn The line could be read as “do you reckon this for justice? Here “to be” is understood.

5 tn The word “when” is not in the Hebrew text, but is implied.

6 tn The brief line could be interpreted in a number of ways. The MT simply has “my right from God.” It could be “I am right before God,” “I am more just/right than God” (identifying the preposition as a comparative min (מִן); cf. J. E. Hartley, Job [NICOT], 463), “I will be right before God,” or “My just cause against God.”
