tn Heb “and the belt on his waist is not opened, and the thong of his sandals is not torn in two.”
tn Heb “he will not gaze toward.”
tn Heb “and that which his fingers made he will not see, the Asherah poles and the incense altars.”
tn Heb “will go down”; NAB “shall be struck down.”
tn Heb “and bulls along with strong ones.” Perhaps this refers to the leaders.
tn Heb “and he causes the lot to fall for them.” Once again the pronominal suffix (“them”) is feminine plural, referring to the birds mentioned in v. 15b or to all of the creatures listed in vv. 14b-15 (all of which are identified with feminine nouns).
tn Heb “and his hand divides for them with a measuring line.” The pronominal suffix (“them”) now switches to masculine plural, referring to all the animals and birds mentioned in vv. 11-15, some of which were identified with masculine nouns. This signals closure for this portion of the speech, which began in v. 11. The following couplet (v. 17b) forms an inclusio with v. 11a through verbal repetition.
tn Heb “will possess it” (so NIV); NCV “they will own that land forever.”
tn Heb “declare to my people their rebellion.”
tn Heb “and to the house of Jacob their sin.” The verb “declare” is understood by ellipsis (note the preceding line).
tn Heb “their deeds are deeds of sin, and the work of violence [is] in their hands.”
tn Heb “all who see them will recognize them, that they [are] descendants [whom] the Lord has blessed.”
tn Heb “and they will not give birth to horror.”
tn Heb “for offspring blessed by the Lord they [will be], and their descendants along with them.”
