Isaiah 19:20

Context
19:20 It 1  will become a visual reminder in the land of Egypt of 2  the Lord who commands armies. When they cry out to the Lord because of oppressors, he will send them a deliverer and defender 3  who will rescue them.

Isaiah 43:3

Context

43:3 For I am the Lord your God,

the Holy One of Israel, 4  your deliverer.

I have handed over Egypt as a ransom price,

Ethiopia and Seba 5  in place of you.

Isaiah 60:16

Context

60:16 You will drink the milk of nations;

you will nurse at the breasts of kings. 6

Then you will recognize that I, the Lord, am your deliverer,

your protector, 7  the powerful ruler of Jacob. 8

1 tn The masculine noun מִזְבֵּחַ (mizbbeakh, “altar”) in v. 19 is probably the subject of the masculine singular verb הָיָה (hayah) rather than the feminine noun מַצֵּבָה (matsevah, “sacred pillar”), also in v. 19.

2 tn Heb “a sign and a witness to the Lord who commands armies [traditionally, the Lord of hosts] in the land of Egypt.”

3 tn רָב (rav) is a substantival participle (from רִיב, riv) meaning “one who strives, contends.”

4 sn See the note on the phrase “the Holy One of Israel” in 1:4.

5 sn Seba is not the same as Sheba in southern Arabia; cf. Gen 1:10; 1 Chr 1:9.

6 sn The nations and kings are depicted as a mother nursing her children. Restored Zion will be nourished by them as she receives their wealth as tribute.

7 tn Or “redeemer.” See the note at 41:14.

8 sn See 1:24 and 49:26.
