Genesis 16:15-16

Context

16:15 So Hagar gave birth to Abram’s son, whom Abram named Ishmael. 1  16:16 (Now 2  Abram was 86 years old 3  when Hagar gave birth to Ishmael.) 4

25:24 When the time came for Rebekah to give birth, 5  there were 6  twins in her womb.

Genesis 30:21

Context

30:21 After that she gave birth to a daughter and named her Dinah.

Genesis 38:27

Context

38:27 When it was time for her to give birth, there were twins in her womb.

1 tn Heb “and Abram called the name of his son whom Hagar bore, Ishmael.”

sn Whom Abram named Ishmael. Hagar must have informed Abram of what the angel had told her. See the note on the name “Ishmael” in 16:11.

2 tn The disjunctive clause gives information that is parenthetical to the narrative.

3 tn Heb “the son of eighty-six years.”

4 tn The Hebrew text adds, “for Abram.” This has not been included in the translation for stylistic reasons; it is somewhat redundant given the three occurrences of Abram’s name in this and the previous verse.

5 tn Heb “And her days were filled to give birth.”

6 tn Heb “look!” By the use of the particle הִנֵּה (hinneh, “look”), the narrator invites the audience to view the scene as if they were actually present at the birth.
