Genesis 15:15

1 tn The vav with the pronoun before the verb calls special attention to the subject in contrast to the preceding subject.

2 sn You will go to your ancestors. This is a euphemistic expression for death.

3 tn Heb “in a good old age.”

4 tn Heb “for to my country and my relatives you must go.”

5 tn Heb “and take.”

6 tn The imperfect is used here in a modal sense to indicate desire.

7 tn Heb “after me.”

8 tn Heb “Go away from us.”

9 sn You have become much more powerful. This explanation for the expulsion of Isaac from Philistine territory foreshadows the words used later by the Egyptians to justify their oppression of Israel (see Exod 1:9).

10 tn Heb “and he”; the referent (Esau) has been specified in the translation for clarity.

11 tn Heb “let us travel and let us go.” The two cohortatives are used in combination with the sense, “let’s travel along, get going, be on our way.”

12 tn Heb “if there is you sending,” that is, “if you send.”

13 tn Heb “and go! Enter!”
