Ezekiel 36:26

36:26 I will give you a new heart, and I will put a new spirit within you. I will remove the heart of stone 1  from your body and give you a heart of flesh. 2

Ezekiel 44:7

44:7 When you bring foreigners, those uncircumcised in heart and in flesh, into my sanctuary, you desecrate 4  it – even my house – when you offer my food, the fat and the blood. You 5  have broken my covenant by all your abominable practices.

Ezekiel 44:9

44:9 This is what the sovereign Lord says: No foreigner, who is uncircumcised in heart and flesh among all the foreigners who are among the people of Israel, will enter into my sanctuary. 6 

1 sn That is, a heart which symbolizes a will that is stubborn and unresponsive (see 1 Sam 25:37). In Rabbinic literature a “stone” was associated with an evil inclination (b. Sukkah 52a).

2 sn That is, a heart which symbolizes a will that is responsive and obedient to God.

4 tn Heb “to desecrate.”

5 tc The Greek, Syriac, and Latin versions read “you.” The Masoretic text reads “they.”
