Ezekiel 24:13
Context24:13 You mix uncleanness with obscene conduct. 1
I tried to cleanse you, 2 but you are not clean.
You will not be cleansed from your uncleanness 3
until I have exhausted my anger on you.
Ezekiel 39:14
Context39:14 They will designate men to scout continually 4 through the land, burying those who remain on the surface of the ground, 5 in order to cleanse it. They will search for seven full months.
Ezekiel 43:20
Context43:20 You will take some of its blood, and place it on the four horns of the altar, on the four corners of the ledge, and on the border all around; you will cleanse it and make atonement for it. 6
1 tn Heb “in your uncleanness (is) obscene conduct.”
2 tn Heb “because I cleansed you.” In this context (see especially the very next statement), the statement must refer to divine intention and purpose. Despite God’s efforts to cleanse his people, they resisted him and remained morally impure.
3 tn The Hebrew text adds the word “again.”
4 tn Heb “men of perpetuity.”
5 tn Heb “and bury the travelers and those who remain on the surface of the ground.” The reference to “travelers” seems odd and is omitted in the LXX. It is probably an accidental duplication (see v. 11).
