Ezekiel 16:8

16:8 “‘Then I passed by you and watched you, noticing 1  that you had reached the age for love. 2  I spread my cloak 3  over you and covered your nakedness. I swore a solemn oath to you and entered into a marriage covenant with you, declares the sovereign Lord, and you became mine.

Ezekiel 16:43

Context

16:43 “‘Because you did not remember the days of your youth and have enraged me with all these deeds, I hereby repay you for what you have done, 4  declares the sovereign Lord. Have you not engaged in prostitution on top of all your other abominable practices?

44:15 “‘But the Levitical priests, the descendants of Zadok 17  who kept the charge of my sanctuary when the people of Israel went astray from me, will approach me to minister to me; they will stand before me to offer me the fat and the blood, declares the sovereign Lord.

1 tn The word הִנֵּה (hinneh, traditionally “behold”) indicates becoming aware of something and has been translated here as a participle.

2 tn See similar use of this term in Ezek 23:17; Prov 7:16; Song of Songs 4:10; 7:13.

3 tn Heb “wing” or “skirt.” The gesture symbolized acquiring a woman in early Arabia (similarly, see Deut 22:30; Ruth 3:9).

4 tn Heb “your way on (your) head I have placed.”

5 tn Or “I will not reveal myself to you.”

6 tn Or “gifts.”

7 tn Or “Will I reveal myself to you?”

8 tn Or “I will not reveal myself to you.”
