Ezekiel 28:7
Context28:7 I am about to bring foreigners 6 against you, the most terrifying of nations.
They will draw their swords against the grandeur made by your wisdom, 7
and they will defile your splendor.
1 sn I will be their God. See Exod 6:7; Lev 26:12; Jer 7:23; 11:4.
2 tn Heb, “on the mountains he does not eat.” The mountains are often mentioned as the place where idolatrous sacrifices were eaten (Ezek 20:28; 22:9; 34:6).
3 tn Heb, “does not lift up his eyes.” This refers to looking to idols for help.
4 tn Heb, “does not draw near to.” “Draw near” is a euphemism for sexual intercourse (Lev 18:14; Deut 22:14; Isa 8:3).
5 tn Heb “each one, the detestable things of his eyes, throw away.” The Pentateuch does not refer to the Israelites worshiping idols in Egypt, but Josh 24:14 appears to suggest that they did so.
6 sn This is probably a reference to the Babylonians.
7 tn Heb “they will draw their swords against the beauty of your wisdom.”
