Deuteronomy 31:27

Context
31:27 for I know about your rebellion and stubbornness. 8  Indeed, even while I have been living among you to this very day, you have rebelled against the Lord; you will be even more rebellious after my death! 9

1 tn Heb “who is there of all flesh.”

2 tn Heb “according to all the desire of his soul.”

3 tn Or “sojourning.” The verb used here refers to living temporarily in a place, not settling down.

4 tn The antecedent of the relative pronoun is “cities.”

5 tn Heb “any breath.”

6 tn Heb “your brothers,” but not limited only to actual siblings; cf. NASB “your (+ own NAB) countrymen.”

7 tn Heb “who are in your land in your gates.” The word “living” is supplied in the translation for stylistic reasons.

8 tn Heb “stiffness of neck” (cf. KJV, NAB, NIV). See note on the word “stubborn” in Deut 9:6.

9 tn Heb “How much more after my death?” The Hebrew text has a sarcastic rhetorical question here; the translation seeks to bring out the force of the question.
