Deuteronomy 13:16

Context
13:16 You must gather all of its plunder into the middle of the plaza 1  and burn the city and all its plunder as a whole burnt offering to the Lord your God. It will be an abandoned ruin 2  forever – it must never be rebuilt again.

Deuteronomy 17:19

17:19 It must be with him constantly and he must read it as long as he lives, so that he may learn to revere the Lord his God and observe all the words of this law and these statutes and carry them out.

Deuteronomy 30:6

30:6 The Lord your God will also cleanse 3  your heart and the hearts of your descendants 4  so that you may love him 5  with all your mind and being and so that you may live.

2 tn Heb “mound”; NAB “a heap of ruins.” The Hebrew word תֵּל (tel) refers to this day to a ruin represented especially by a built-up mound of dirt or debris (cf. Tel Aviv, “mound of grain”).

3 tn Heb “circumcise” (so KJV, NAB, NIV, NRSV); TEV “will give you and your descendents obedient hearts.” See note on the word “cleanse” in Deut 10:16.

4 tn Heb “seed” (so KJV, ASV).

5 tn Heb “the Lord your God.” See note on the second occurrence of the word “he” in v. 3.
