Context20:35 By all these things, 1 I have shown you that by working in this way we must help 2 the weak, 3 and remember the words of the Lord Jesus that he himself said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’” 4
Acts 24:14
Context24:14 But I confess this to you, that I worship 5 the God of our ancestors 6 according to the Way (which they call a sect), believing everything that is according to the law 7 and that is written in the prophets.
1 sn The expression By all these things means “In everything I did.”
2 tn Or “must assist.”
3 tn Or “the sick.” See Eph 4:28.
4 sn The saying is similar to Matt 10:8. Service and generosity should be abundant. Interestingly, these exact words are not found in the gospels. Paul must have known of this saying from some other source.
5 tn Or “serve.”
6 tn Or “forefathers”; Grk “fathers.”
7 sn That is, the law of Moses. Paul was claiming that he legitimately worshiped the God of Israel. He was arguing that this amounted to a religious dispute rather than a political one, so that the Roman authorities need not concern themselves with it.
