Acts 22:7

22:7 Then I 8  fell to the ground and heard a voice saying to me, ‘Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me?’

Acts 26:21

26:21 For this reason the Jews seized me in the temple courts 9  and were trying to kill me.

1 sn A quotation from Ps 16:8-11.

2 tn BDAG 826 s.v. πλήν 1.d has “πλὴν ὅτι except thatAc 20:23.”

3 tn The verb διαμαρτύρομαι (diamarturomai) can mean “warn” (BDAG 233 s.v. διαμαρτύρομαι 2 has “solemnly urge, exhort, warn…w. dat. of pers. addressed”), and this meaning better fits the context here, although BDAG categorizes Acts 20:23 under the meaning “testify of, bear witness to” (s.v. 1).

4 tn The Greek text here reads κατὰ πόλιν (kata polin).

5 tn Grk “saying that,” but the participle λέγον (legon) is redundant in English and has not been translated.

6 tn Grk “bonds.”

7 tn Or “troubles,” “suffering.” See Acts 19:21; 21:4, 11.

8 tn This is a continuation of the same sentence in Greek using the connective τέ (te), but due to the length and complexity of the Greek sentence a new sentence was begun in the translation here. To indicate the logical sequence for the modern English reader, τέ was translated as “then.”

9 tn Grk “in the temple.” This is actually a reference to the courts surrounding the temple proper, and has been translated accordingly.
