Context
5:3 “You know that my father David was unable to build a temple to honor the Lord¹ his God, for he was busy fighting battles on all fronts while the Lord subdued his enemies.²

1 Kings 8:44

Context

8:44 “When you direct your people to march out and fight their enemies,³ and they direct their prayers to the Lord⁴ toward his chosen city and this temple I built for your honor,⁵

¹tn Heb “a house for the name of the Lord.” The word “name” sometimes refers to one’s reputation or honor. The “name” of the Lord sometimes designates the Lord himself, being indistinguishable from the proper name.

²tn Heb “because of the battles which surrounded him until the Lord placed them under the soles of his feet.”

³tn Heb “When your people go out for battle against their enemies in the way which you send them.”

⁴tn Or perhaps “to you, O Lord.” See 2 Chr 6:34.

⁵tn Heb “your name.” See the note on the word “reputation” in v. 41.

displaying	set the max displaying in one page.	"20" will set displaying max to 20 per page
range	set searching range	"All Bible", "Old Testament", "New Testament"
