Revelation 3:3

3:3 Therefore, remember what you received and heard, and obey it, and repent. If you do not wake up, I will come like a thief, and you will never know at what hour I will come against you.

Revelation 3:10

3:10 Because you have kept my admonition to endure steadfastly, I will also keep you from the hour of testing that is about to come on the whole world to test those who live on the earth.

Revelation 14:7

14:7 He declared in a loud voice: “Fear God and give him glory, because the hour of his judgment has arrived, and worship the one who made heaven and earth, the sea and the springs of water!”

Revelation 17:12

17:12 The ten horns that you saw are ten kings who have not yet received a kingdom, but will receive ruling authority 10  as kings with the beast for one hour.

Revelation 18:10

18:10 They will stand a long way off because they are afraid of her torment, and will say,

“Woe, woe, O great city,

Babylon the powerful city!

For in a single hour your doom 11  has come!”

Revelation 18:17

18:17 because in a single hour such great wealth has been destroyed!” 12 

And every ship’s captain, 13  and all who sail along the coast 14  – seamen, and all who 15  make their living from the sea, stood a long way off

Revelation 18:19

18:19 And they threw dust on their heads and were shouting with weeping and mourning, 16 

“Woe, Woe, O great city –

in which all those who had ships on the sea got rich from her wealth –

because in a single hour she has been destroyed!” 17 


tn The expression πῶς εἴληφας καὶ ἤκουσας (pw" eilhfa" kai hkousa") probably refers to the initial instruction in the Christian life they had received and been taught; this included doctrine and ethical teaching.

tn Grk “keep it,” in the sense of obeying what they had initially been taught.

tn The negation here is with οὐ μή (ou mh, the strongest possible form of negation in Koine Greek).

tn Or “come on.”

tn Or “obey.” For the translation of τηρέω (threw) as “obey” see L&N 36.19. In the Greek there is a wordplay: “because you have kept my word…I will keep you,” though the meaning of τηρέω is different each time.

tn The Greek term λόγον (logon) is understood here in the sense of admonition or encouragement.

tn Or “to persevere.” Here ὑπομονῆς (Jupomonhs) has been translated as a genitive of reference/respect related to τὸν λόγον (ton logon).

tn Grk “people, saying.” In the Greek text this is a continuation of the previous sentence. For the translation of λέγω (legw) as “declare,” see BDAG 590 s.v. 2.e.

tn Here καί (kai) has not been translated because of differences between Greek and English style.

12 tn On ἠρημώθη (hrhmwqh) L&N 20.41 states, “to suffer destruction, with the implication of being deserted and abandoned – ‘to be destroyed, to suffer destruction, to suffer desolation.’ ἐρημόομαι: μιᾷ ὥρᾳ ἠρημώθη ὁ τοσοῦτος πλοῦτος ‘such great wealth has been destroyed within a single hour’ Re 18:17.”
