1 Kings 8:43

8:43 Then listen from your heavenly dwelling place and answer all the prayers of the foreigners. Then all the nations of the earth will acknowledge your reputation, obey you like your people Israel do, and recognize that this temple I built belongs to you.

1 Kings 11:38

11:38 You must obey all I command you to do, follow my instructions, do what I approve, and keep my rules and commandments, like my servant David did. Then I will be with you and establish for you a lasting dynasty, as I did for David; I will give you Israel.

tn Heb “and do all which the foreigner calls to [i.e., “requests of”] you.”

tn Heb “your name.” See the note on the word “reputation” in v. 41.

tn Heb “fear.”

tn Heb “that your name is called over this house which I built.” The Hebrew idiom “to call the name over” indicates ownership. See 2 Sam 12:28.

tn Heb “If you obey.” In the Hebrew text v. 38 is actually one long conditional sentence, which has been broken into two parts in the translation for stylistic purposes.

tn Heb “walk in my ways.”

tn Heb “do what is right in my eyes.”

tn Heb “I will build for you a permanent house, like I built for David.”
