Who among all the gods of these lands have rescued their lands from my power? So how can the Lord rescue Jerusalem from my power?’” 1
“‘This is what the sovereign Lord says: On that day thoughts will come into your mind, 1 and you will devise an evil plan.
You aren’t greater than our father Abraham who died, are you? 1 And the prophets died too! Who do you claim to be?”
While Peter was still thinking seriously about 1 the vision, the Spirit said to him, “Look! Three men are looking for you.
“Regarding all the things I have been accused of by the Jews, King Agrippa, 1 I consider myself fortunate that I am about to make my defense before you today,
For those who live according to the flesh have their outlook shaped by 1 the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit have their outlook shaped by the things of the Spirit.
Instead, put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh to arouse its desires. 1
But God chose what the world thinks foolish to shame the wise, and God chose what the world thinks weak to shame the strong.
For who among men knows the things of a man except the man’s spirit within him? So too, no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God.
Their end is destruction, their god is the belly, they exult in their shame, and they think about earthly things. 1
Think of him who endured such opposition against himself by sinners, so that you may not grow weary in your souls and give up.
When the men of that place asked him about his wife, he replied, “She is my sister.” 1 He was afraid to say, “She is my wife,” for he thought to himself, 2 “The men of this place will kill me to get 3 Rebekah because she is very beautiful.”
But this knowledge is not shared by all. And some, by being accustomed to idols in former times, eat this food as an idol sacrifice, and their conscience, because it is weak, is defiled.
For 1 it is right for me to think this about all of you, because I have you in my heart, 2 since both in my imprisonment 3 and in the defense and confirmation of the gospel all of you became partners in God’s grace 4 together with me.
I considered these things carefully 1 and then registered a complaint with the wealthy 2 and the officials. I said to them, “Each one of you is seizing the collateral 3 from your own countrymen!” 4 Because of them I called for 5 a great public assembly.
