You must not gather in the aftergrowth of your harvest and you must not pick the grapes of your unpruned 1 vines; the land must have a year of complete rest.
That fiftieth year will be your jubilee; you must not sow the land, harvest its aftergrowth, or pick the grapes of its unpruned vines. 1
“Speak to the Israelites, and tell them, ‘When either a man or a woman 1 takes a special vow, 2 to take a vow 3 as a Nazirite, 4 to separate 5 himself to the Lord,
“‘Now this is the law of the Nazirite: When the days of his separation are fulfilled, he must be brought 1 to the entrance of the tent of meeting,
“‘Then the Nazirite must shave his consecrated head 1 at the entrance to the tent of meeting and must take the hair from his consecrated head and put it on the fire 2 where the peace offering is burning. 3
And the priest must take the boiled shoulder of the ram, one cake made without yeast from the basket, and one wafer made without yeast, and put them on the hands of the Nazirite after he has shaved his consecrated head; 1
then the priest must wave them as a wave offering 1 before the Lord; it is a holy portion for the priest, together with the breast of the wave offering and the thigh of the raised offering. 2 After this the Nazirite may drink 3 wine.’
“This is the law 1 of the Nazirite who vows to the Lord his offering according to his separation, as well as whatever else he can provide. 2 Thus he must fulfill 3 his vow that he makes, according to the law of his separation.”
Look, you will conceive and have a son. 1 You must never cut his hair, 2 for the child will be dedicated to God 3 from birth. He will begin to deliver Israel from the power 4 of the Philistines.”
He said to me, ‘Look, you will conceive and have a son. 1 So now, do not drink wine or beer and do not eat any food that will make you ritually unclean. 2 For the child will be dedicated 3 to God from birth till the day he dies.’”
Finally he told her his secret. 1 He said to her, “My hair has never been cut, 2 for I have been dedicated to God 3 from the time I was conceived. 4 If my head 5 were shaved, my strength would leave me; I would become weak, and be just like all other men.”
