You must not rule over him harshly, ¹  but you must fear your God.

When the godly see this, they will be filled with awe, and will mock the evildoer, saying: ¹ 

When ¹  I am afraid, I trust in you.

Let them praise your great and awesome name! He ¹  is holy!

My body ¹  trembles ²  because I fear you; ³  I am afraid of your judgments.

But ¹  you are willing to forgive, ²  so that you might ³  be honored. ⁴ 

They will proclaim ¹  the power of your awesome acts! I will declare your great deeds!

You came near ¹  on the day I called to you; you said, ²  “Do not fear!”

He was afraid and said, “What an awesome place this is! This is nothing else than the house of God! This is the gate of heaven!”

That day the Lord brought honor to Joshua before all Israel. They respected ¹  him all his life, ²  just as they had respected ³  Moses.

Then the archers shot at your servants from the wall and some of the king’s soldiers ¹  died. Your servant Uriah the Hittite is also dead.”

Then those who respected ¹  the Lord spoke to one another, and the Lord took notice. ²  A scroll ³  was prepared before him in which were recorded the names of those who respected the Lord and honored his name.

“‘You must keep my Sabbaths and fear my sanctuary. I am the Lord.

You must keep my Sabbaths and reverence ¹  my sanctuary. I am the Lord.

So I responded to you, “Do not be terrified ¹  of them!

Do not be afraid of them, for the Lord your God will personally fight for you.”

You must revere the Lord your God, serve him, and take oaths using only his name.

Then all the people will hear and be afraid, and not be so presumptuous again.

You will be protected ¹  from malicious gossip, ²  and will not be afraid of the destruction ³  when it comes.

You will laugh at destruction and famine ¹  and need not ²  be afraid of the beasts of the earth.
