Matthew 25:3

When ¹  the foolish ones took their lamps, they did not take extra ²  olive oil ³  with them.

The foolish ones took their lamps but did not take any oil with them.

"For when the foolish took their lamps, they took no oil with them,

The five who were foolish took no oil for their lamps,

The silly virgins took lamps, but no extra oil.

For the foolish, when they took their lights, took no oil with them.

When the foolish took their lamps, they took no oil with them;

"Those who were foolish took their lamps and took no oil with them,

When ¹  the foolish ones took their lamps, they did not take extra ²  olive oil ³  with them.

¹ tn Grk “For when.” Here γάρ (gar) has not been translated.

² tn The word “extra” is not in the Greek text but is implied. The point is that the five foolish virgins had only the oil in their lamps, but took along no extra supply from which to replenish them. This is clear from v. 8, where the lamps of the foolish virgins are going out because they are running out of oil.
